Bart and Barb O'Brien founded O'Brien Estate winery in Napa Valley, California in 2000. The couple had toured Napa wineries on their third date, but some profitable careers (Bart found success during the dot.com boom) and not-so-profitable ventures (like Scaregrounds, a Halloween-themed amusement park), not to mention raising two children, would happen before they found their way back—this time as vintners.

Their estate vineyards are in the Oak Knoll area of southern Napa Valley. With fog burning off early in the day and nearby San Pablo Bay helping to keep daytime temperatures moderate, the climate is perfect for cabernet, merlot, and chardonnay grapes. The consistency in climate helps preserve the nuances of each grape varietal and preserves the natural acidity. O'Brien Estate uses only traditional Bordeaux-style winemaking techniques and oak barrels from France.
