Jack O'Neill became an action sports industry pioneer—not to mention one of the most recognized names in surfing—when he started the first O'Neil Surf Shop more than 50 years ago. With the new wetsuits, the surfing season lasted longer because surfers could stay in the water longer without getting too cold. Jack developed long john designs and shortie designs and his classic beaver-tail jacket. Surfers were discovering bigger waves in new territories because thanks to O'Neill wetsuits, folks could even surf the New England coast in winter. Divers, waterskiers, windsurfers, and snow-skiers all wanted O'Neill suits. Business exploded and O'Neill opened a manufacturing facility where everyone in the family pitched in.
