The Signing Time program was created by Rachel and Aaron Coleman, out of their experience raising a deaf child. Rachel and Aaron began teaching Sign Language to their daughter Leah as soon as they could, and found that while other babies were only able to communicate through primitive means, Leah could sign specific needs, such as Òjuice, not milkÓ or Òcheese and crackers, please.Ó Rachel's sister Emilie was impressed, and began teaching Sign Language to her 10 month-old son, who immediately learned to sign instead of crying.

Rachel and Emilie decided to share their experience with other parents, and Signing Time was formed out of their desire to create a captivating, entertaining video to teach sign language to hearing children.

The Signing Time program spread quickly by word of mouth to all 50 states and over 20 countries. Signing Time is used widely by educators, pediatricians, home-schooled children, speech therapists, public school teachers, daycare centers, libraries, and families as a fun and easy way to introduce children to sign language.
